Section 3, The Stakes: seventeen treatments

Seventeen ways to build the same section, with AISV’s copy left exactly as written. What changes is the arrangement. All five carry the eyebrow device now used in the hero and in section 2, so the page starts to have a habit rather than a new idea per screen.

What is wrong with the version on the page. It is the same stack fault section 2 had, and it will keep recurring until the page has a pattern: heading, lead, grid, three paragraphs, all one width, one column. Beyond that, three faults are specific to this section. Six equal boxes say nothing: these are six failures a business can suffer, and a row of identical rectangles communicates "list", not "consequence", while the #EDE3C8 border sits so close to cream that the boxes barely register as objects at all. The closer is unowned: three paragraphs sit at the bottom with nothing holding them, and they carry the real argument of the section. And the page is pale for too long: gradient, white, tint, cream, white, with NIGHT not arriving until section 6.

Section 2 is now a hard split with two grounds, so none of these repeats a left-right split. No option uses an image.

AOne object, not sixThe six events go inside a single panel divided by 1px gaps, so the dividers ARE the grid and the section holds one object rather than six near-invisible ones. It is the same discipline as the page’s card language but used once at full strength instead of six times at a whisper. The closing argument moves into three columns so it reads as a conclusion rather than as leftover paragraphs.

The Stakes

Legal Problems Are Easier to Prevent Than Repair

Too many growing businesses discover legal gaps only after something goes wrong.

A former employee files a claim.

A client refuses to pay.

A contract leaves the company exposed.

A cybersecurity incident creates unexpected liability.

A partnership falls apart.

A large legal bill arrives with no warning.

By then, the issue may already be expensive, stressful, and disruptive.

The problem is not that business owners are careless. It is that no one has been consistently watching the legal side of the business.

You deserve a legal partner who helps you identify risks before they become emergencies.

BA grid drawn with rulesNothing is bounded at all. Six events sit in three columns with a hairline over each, and the cream ground holds them without help. It is the lightest of the five and the most confident, because it assumes the reader can see a grid without being shown its edges. It also keeps section 3 clearly distinct from section 2, which is now a hard split with two grounds.

CCentred, each event opened by a ruleThe section rhymes with the hero: heading and lead centred, then the six events in three columns, each opened by a short rule so the set has a beat. Centring a fear section slows it down, which is arguably right, and the closing argument sits back at reading alignment underneath so the section ends in a normal voice.

DThe events on NIGHTA NIGHT panel inset into the cream band. This is the only option that answers a page-level problem rather than a section one: the page runs gradient, white, tint, cream, white before NIGHT arrives in section 6, which is a long way to go with no weight. A section about what goes wrong is the natural place to introduce it, and the events become the thing the visitor remembers. The eyebrow inside the panel is new copy and would go to AISV.

EThe same grid, executed properlyNothing is rearranged. The tile loses its #EDE3C8 border, which was so close to cream that it never read as an edge anyway, gains real padding and a short gold rule, and the type goes up to 17.5px. Worth seeing for the same reason the minimum fix was worth seeing in section 2: if this is enough, the effort belongs in sections 5 to 9. The cost is six gold marks in one section, which spends the page’s only accent generously.

FThe ledgerSix rows at full measure and 24px, close to heading size. A failure written small inside a box is an item; written large across the page it is an event, which is what these actually are. It is the slowest of everything on this sheet and the most serious in tone, and for a section whose job is to make the reader uncomfortable, slow is not a fault. It costs the most vertical space of any option here.

GNarrow rail, events stackedThe proportions change rather than the parts: heading, lead AND the closing argument all live in a narrow left rail, with the six events running down the right. This is the only option that fixes the unowned closer by moving it rather than by restyling it, and the section then ends on the last event rather than on a paragraph. It is a contained split, not a full-bleed one, so it does not repeat section 2’s device.

HEnds on a promiseSame words, same order, different weight. AISV’s last line is the only sentence in this section that is not a warning, and setting it at 27px behind a rule lets the section close on the turn rather than trail off. The six events compress to three columns of plain rules and the two remaining paragraphs pair off, so the shape of the section reads as: here is what goes wrong, here is why, here is the way out.

ITwo grounds inside the containerFigure and ground without NIGHT and without leaving the 1440px band. A white block sits flush inside the cream, no border, hairlines only between rows. It answers the invisible-card fault directly, since the object is now defined by its ground rather than by a #EDE3C8 line, and it is the least disruptive way to give the section an object. Compare it against D: same problem, one solved with weight and one with contrast.

JSix columns, edge to edgeWhite groundThe only shape on this sheet that treats the six as one row of equal possibilities rather than as a block. Vertical rules divide them, nothing is bounded, and the whole set is taken in at a glance instead of read. At 218px a column the type has to drop to 15px, so this trades legibility for shape, which is a fair trade for six short sentences and a bad one for anything longer.

KThree tracksWhite groundArgument, events and conclusion side by side under one rule, so the entire section is readable in a single look rather than top to bottom. It is the most compact option anywhere on this sheet, roughly half the height of the ledger, and it is the only one where the closing paragraphs are structurally equal to the events instead of trailing them. On white it works because the three top rules give the section an edge it would not otherwise have.

LThe whole section framedWhite groundDirection B’s bounded object used ONCE, around everything, instead of six times around fragments. Three zones inside one frame, divided by hairlines, with the closing argument on cream so the section ends on a different material than it began. This is the strongest answer to the white-on-white adjacency problem: the frame is the section’s edge, so it does not need its ground to provide one.

MStaggeredWhite groundTwo columns with the right one pushed down half a row, so the six read as a rhythm rather than as a table. The offset does the work a border would otherwise do, which is why this survives on white without a frame. Type goes up to 19px because two columns give it the room, and the stagger means the eye never sees two events start on the same line, which is what made the original six-box grid feel like a spreadsheet.

NThe whole band on NIGHTDark groundD put a dark panel inside the cream; this makes the section itself the dark one. It is the fuller answer to the page staying pale until section 6, and it gives the argument a place to land: the visitor meets weight exactly where the copy is describing what goes wrong. It also solves the adjacency problem outright, since nothing else near it is dark. The cost is that section 6 is already NIGHT, so the page would carry two dark bands and their spacing would need checking.

ONumerals hanging in the marginWhite groundThe index moves OUT of the sentence and into the margin at 32px, faint. It stops being part of the line and becomes the page’s furniture, which is how a serious document numbers things rather than how a list does. The events go up to 20px because a single column gives them the room, and the 104px rail gives the section a left edge that white alone would not.

PScale contrast, the other wayCream groundF made the events big. Here the heading takes the space at 54px and the six events are set small beneath it, so the section reads as one statement with evidence under it rather than as six warnings with a title. It is the most confident use of the copy AISV wrote, because it trusts the headline to carry the section, and it is the shortest of the treatments that still give the events their own grid.

QNo structure at allWhite groundOne centred column, no rules, no grid, no boxes, no numbers. This is the floor of the sheet and it is here to be argued with: if it holds, every other option is spending effort the section does not need. It also rhymes with the hero, which is now centred, so the page would open and state its problem in the same voice.

If you want one: A. One object at full strength beats six at a whisper, it needs no new colour, and moving the closer into three columns turns three stranded paragraphs into the conclusion they actually are. D is the one to pick if you agree the page waits too long for weight, and it is the only option here that fixes something above the section level.
