--- title: Editing the timetable excerpt: Edit each timetable category's heading, text, photos and link, plus the academic block rotation table and its colours. tags: [timetable, schedule, academics, rotation] target: client:brentwood ---
The timetable — the weekly grid of academic blocks, meals, activities and evening prep — isn't a set of posts you create one at a time. It's a single page called Timetable in the left-hand menu. The grid itself (the days, times and coloured blocks) is fixed in the site's design and can't be changed here. What you do control is everything a visitor sees when they click a category: that panel's heading, text, photos and "Learn more" link, plus the Academic Block Rotation table shown inside the Academics panel.
Go to Timetable in the left-hand menu — look for the calendar icon. The page opens with the heading Edit Timetable Content at the top; that's the same page, just its full name. Everything on it is split into two tabs:
Note
The grid itself — the days, times and coloured blocks across the top — is fixed and isn't edited from this page. Only the panel content and the rotation table are.
Under Content Panels, there's one row for each of the timetable's 10 categories. The list is fixed — you can't add, remove or reorder them:
Timetable → Content Panels.| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Heading | The title shown at the top of the panel. |
| Body Text | The paragraph(s) shown under the heading. |
| Panel Image | The photo beside the text. Only shown for Period (Academics), Food and Evening Prep — the other categories don't display it. |
| Block Background Images | The faint photos behind that category's blocks in the grid — see below. |
| "Learn more" Link + Link Text | The button at the bottom of the panel. Leave both blank to hide it. |
Block Background Images are the faint photos shown behind that category's blocks in the grid once a visitor clicks it — different from the Panel Image, which sits inside the text panel itself. It holds several photos, cycled one per block.
Timetable → Content Panels.Note
With more than one photo, each block cycles to the next one so blocks next to each other don't repeat the same image. With just one photo, that same photo shows behind every block for that category.
The Academic Block Rotation tab holds the small table shown inside the Academics panel — the grid of letters that tells students which class block runs on which day.
Timetable → Academic Block Rotation.Important
Each period row needs exactly as many letters as there are lines in Day Columns — one letter per day, in order. Count your day columns first, then match that many letters in every period row, or the table won't line up.
Every letter used in the rotation table needs a matching entry in Block Colours, further down the same tab. A letter with no colour set shows as plain grey.
Academic Block Rotation, scroll to Block Colours.Note
Colours are set per letter, not per period — one entry covers that letter everywhere it appears in the table.
The timetable isn't copied onto a page as text — it's the Brentwood Timetable block. Whatever you save on the Timetable page shows up automatically everywhere that block is used. Right now, that's:
/why-brentwood/unique-timetable — the full week, every category./academics, /arts and /athletics — each opens straight to that department's own panel. To add it to another page: edit the page, click the + to add a block, and search for Brentwood Timetable. With the block selected, its settings panel on the right offers:
Note
The block always pulls from the same Timetable page — adding it to a new page doesn't create a separate copy to maintain. Edit the content once and every page updates together.
