# Summer Camps 2027 — new page

**Separate, chargeable engagement.** Not part of the Website Migration, and not part of the
Online Store / WooCommerce project. Adi picks this up.

**Deadline: Friday 13 September 2026** — hard. The admissions team travels shortly after and
needs a working page to send families to. *(Brief received 2026-08-27, so this is roughly two
weeks.)*

**Requested by:** Erin Coulson (Marketing & Communications) and **Stacey Shrout, Auxiliary
Programming Manager (Camps & Events)** — Stacey is the programme owner and the person who will
maintain the page afterwards. She already has edit access to the existing Summer Camps page.

## What they're asking for

A new page for Brentwood's **first multi-night / overnight summer camps, running 2027**. New
format *and* new subjects — **Model UN** and **Marine Science**.

They were direct about why they're asking rather than doing it themselves: they don't yet know
WordPress well enough to produce a bespoke, engaging design quickly, and this one is highly
visible.

## The three constraints they named

**1. No programme photography exists.** These camps have never run, so there is no Model UN or
Marine Science imagery. They have substituted existing Brentwood photographs that come close to
the intended experience. A brochure was attached to the email — **not yet in `inbox/`**.

**2. A lot of text has to be up front.** Multi-night format plus anticipated overseas interest
means families will arrive with real anxieties: safety, insurance, food plans, accommodation,
transportation. Erin expects to front-load a great deal of reassurance.

**3. Those two constraints fight each other** — and they know it. Their own phrasing: *"tons of
text, not too many photos. It will be hard to make this look appealing."* Their proposed answer is
structural: dropdowns, expanded/modal elements, and deliberate use of colour and imagery so the
page doesn't read as a wall of text.

**4. Stakeholders.** This is the **Head of School's pet project** and Admissions treats it as a
pipeline into the main high-school programme. Many eyes, low tolerance for something that looks
unfinished.

> ⚠ The email as received **cuts off mid-sentence** ("…without feeling like their"). Confirm the
> missing text with Erin — it was in the middle of describing the reader experience they want.

## What we already have that helps

The site's existing block library is well suited to this brief, which is worth knowing before
anyone designs from scratch:

- **`bw/faq-accordion` / `bw/faq-item` / `bw/table-accordion`** — the dropdown pattern they asked
for. Already used at scale on Financial Information (7 table accordions + 6 FAQ blocks), which is
the closest existing page in *shape*: heavy reassurance text, structured to stay readable.
- **`bw/card-gallery`** — the workhorse for making limited photography go further.
- **`bw/table-link`** ("Brentwood Table Link") — link/document grids, for brochures and forms.
- **Row backgrounds, curved edges, card styles, number badges** — the colour-and-rhythm tools that
  break up long text.

**Look at Financial Information (#915) before designing.** Same underlying problem — anxious
readers, dense information, few images — and it is already solved once in the house style.

## Existing pages to be aware of

| Page | ID | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Summer Camps | 902 | Published, ~27k. The **day-camp** offering. Decide: new page, or does this become it? |
| Spring Break Camps | 896 | Published, small (~3k) |

**Open question for Erin:** is the 2027 multi-night programme a *new* page alongside the existing
Summer Camps page, or a replacement? That decides URL, navigation and what happens to the existing
content — and it affects SEO on a URL that already ranks.

## Working method

- **`inbox/`** — Rian drops incoming material here as it arrives: images, brochures, emailed
ideas, notes. Unsorted by design. See `inbox/README.md`.
- **`notes/`** — where we work it out: content structure, page outline, decisions.
- This file — the brief. Update it as scope firms up.

## Watch the calendar

The **WooCommerce store** targets late September and the **camps page is due 13 September**. Two
client deadlines a fortnight apart, overlapping people (Erin and Stacey are central to both).
Worth naming early rather than discovering it in week two.
