# Training videos — plan

*Built from a block census of the actual pages each person was granted (2026-08-12), not from
guesswork. Five short videos cover all 21 people; IT gets a written note instead.*

## What the census showed

The same seven blocks dominate **every** granted page: `core/paragraph`, `core/list`,
`kadence/advancedheading`, `kadence/rowlayout` + `kadence/column`, `kadence/image`,
`kadence/advancedbtn`. Cover those and you've covered most of what 14 of these people
will ever touch.

Two findings that change the plan:

1. **`bw/card-gallery` is not a specialist block — it's everywhere.** 34 instances across the
   camps/trips pages, 21 more on Arts Gallery, 1 on Financial Info. It belongs in the core
   video, not an add-on. It also makes the Arts Gallery video much shorter than expected —
   that page is mostly the same block, 21 times.
2. **The Giving background video is a *row setting*, not a block.** So it belongs in the block
   primer alongside row backgrounds generally, not in a Giving-specific video. Which means the
   Giving/Alumni group needs no video of its own — what's actually distinctive there is
   `bw/table-link` and `bw/calendar`, shared with Regatta and Financial Info.

## The five videos

### 1 · Editing your page — everyone (~8 min)

The only one most people need. Must include the things that are unusual about *this* setup:

- Signing in with Google.
- **"You'll only see your own page(s)."** Say it early. Someone who opens WordPress and sees one
  page instead of a whole site will otherwise assume it's broken.
- Two ways in: browse the site → **Edit Page** in the top bar; or Pages in the sidebar.
- Editing text, headings, lists.
- Replacing a photo (click → Replace).
- Buttons: changing the label and the link.
- **The photo gallery block** — swapping an image, editing a caption, reordering.
- **Update** is what makes it public. Nothing before that.
- **The safety net:** Ctrl/Cmd-Z, and Revisions. *"If it looks broken, undo — don't try to fix it."*
- Reassurance to close on: you can't create or delete pages, and you can't reach anyone else's.

### 2 · When you need more than text and photos — optional (~6 min)

For the minority who go past copy and images. Let people self-select; don't make it required.

- What a block is; clicking to select one.
- **Selecting the row vs the column vs the block inside it** — the single most common confusion.
- The sidebar: block settings vs page settings.
- Heading levels.
- **Row backgrounds — colour, image, and video.** (This is the Giving background video.)
- Spacing.

### 3 · Updating courses — Claire Allen, Morgan Rodier (~6 min)

- Finding the Courses list; add vs edit.
- The course fields.
- Categorising: subject, grade, category — and why it matters for the course finder.
- Publishing.

### 4 · Tables, accordions and file links — Regatta + Financial Info + Giving/Alumni (~5 min)

One video, three audiences. Justified by the census: `core/table` ×18 on Regatta,
`bw/table-accordion` ×7 and `bw/faq-item` ×5 on Financial Info, `bw/table-link` across all three.

- Editing a table: adding and removing rows, and the fiddly bits.
- Accordions: adding a row, editing the hidden content.
- Linking to a PDF or file.
- Adding a YouTube list (Regatta Media).

### 5 · The Arts Gallery — Angela Andersen (~4 min)

Shorter than expected: the page is 21 card galleries plus a video-text block. So this is
"video 1's gallery segment, at scale" — organising many galleries, and the two blocks unique
to the page (`bw/video-text`, `bw/page-links`).

### IT — a written note, not a video

Shay, Raymond, Riley (+ Roman, Coleman once they have accounts). Two short paragraphs at the
top of a guide: what they can reach (plugins, themes, tools, settings), what they deliberately
can't (any content, the user roster, the PHP file editors), and who to ask for content changes.

## Two content gaps found while doing this

- **Regatta Draw (#1012) and Results (#1017) are completely empty** — 0 characters. David and
  Jessica have been given edit access to two blank pages.
- **Financial Information (#915) is the most complex single-page assignment** — 204 blocks, 18
  distinct types, including FAQ and table accordions. Marilou will need video 4, and possibly a
  walkthrough.
